The Paris Saint-Germain forward has met James on several occasions since their first introduction at a Nike event in New York back in 2018, and is an admirer of the LA Lakers star's projects away from the sporting arena. Mbappe believes he can use James's work in society as a blueprint for his own, and is happy to be able to call on the 39-year-old for some sage advice.

Speaking to GQ about the influence James has had on him, Mbappe explained: "He has a much more advanced career than I do, and projects outside sport that have cemented his place as a legend. Being able to ask such inspiring personalities for advice is a chance to adjust my projects and create my own thing that is as effective as possible for today's young people.
"These projects grow with me and make me particularly proud. It's important for me to convey values like dialogue and sharing by surrounding myself with partners who support but above all understand and validate my societal commitment."

Mbappe couldn't pick a much better role model than James, who has supported children from elementary school to university level since establishing the LeBron James Family Foundation in 2004. His philanthropy extends to adults too, supporting mental health, literacy and legal aid services. Mbappe launched his own foundation 'Inspired by KM' in 2020 to support young people from the Paris region, and he is determined to keep giving back as his career progresses. “I have always been brought up on transmission and sharing," he added. "To get to where I am today, I certainly had talent but I was helped and I had the chance to meet the right people at the right time who allowed me to go through different stages of my life. Now that I am in the position to transmit, I want to help the younger generation as best as possible."

Mbappe's influence and social consciousness was also apparent when he addressed the nation during the rioting that flared up after a 17-year-old was killed by police at a traffic stop last summer. The World Cup winner has his focus locked on commitments at PSG right now, though, and will be back in action when Luis Enrique's side take on US Orleans in the French Cup this weekend.
