Man Utd's injury blow ahead of Community ShieldFour defenders likely to miss the clashFace rivals Manchester City on SaturdayWHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Devils' pre-season tour of the United States is proving costly as they saw several of their first-team players picking up injuries even before the new 2024-25 season has kicked off. After losing new signing Leny Yoro and star forward Rasmus Hojlund to serious injuries, defenders Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will now require medical attention. All three players started the friendly with Liverpool in South Carolina last week, but none were able to finish that contest.

Ahead of the club's first competitive game of the new season, manager Erik ten Hag provided an update on his squad's injury status. He hinted that as many as four first-team defenders are likely to miss the Manchester derby including Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.

WHAT ERIK TEN HAG SAID

Speaking to reporters, the Dutch manager said: "Harry Maguire missed the game [against Liverpool], was a precaution but is still a question mark for Saturday. So we have training, we have to see whether he is fit enough or not to be available. Victor player but also he's a question mark and also Azza [Wan-Bissaka] and Luke Shaw are both question marks, we have to assess them tomorrow."
